Increase calories burned.
This is the winning formula for weight loss. We need a more active lifestyle, but it is often challenging to do, especially if you are not as athletic as you used to be, a little older, or you cannot afford gym membership fees. You can still accomplish burning more calories by walking more. Like most people, if you have a really busy schedule, when you have errands to do, you could try to park a bit farther away each time you go to a store, or work, etc. You will find that you will be walking much more and you will not be taking much extra time from your schedule. You will also start to feel better, and be proud of your accomplishment.
Take the stairs when possible.
Another option would be to take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible, just give yourself a few extra minutes to do this. Your body will get stronger, and before you know it you will be parking farther and walking up more stairs than you ever thought possible. If you cannot make it up several flights at first, that is OK, you can get the elevator whenever you need to, but just keep pushing yourself a little bit further each time and you will start to get excited after a few weeks when you notice that you can now walk up 2,3,4,5 or more flights than you used to do, and guess what? Your body is burning calories the entire time. This is pretty exciting.
Take a swim class or just swim on your own.
Swimming is a very low impact workout that is ideal for most people. It can help you to increase the number of calories burned without feeling like you have worked out. If you have a pool, jump in at least 3 days a week. If you don't have a pool, you may want to consider going to the local community pool, in your area, or even better, if you live near the beach, you can go swimming there. Of course this advise only works in the warm weather, but there are indoor heated pools available in your area for the cold weather. You might also have a local swim school that will allow you to swim for an hour for a small fee. This is just a start of the solutions that have been proven to work and can help you to achieve your goals.
