Should I Register With A Gym?

Any time a person comes to me saying, ''Ifeoma, I need to lose weight fast. Will registering with a gym help?''. I simply tell say that if you think it works for you, by all pleasure do it because no two people are alike. There are tangible reasons to join a gym, at the same time, there are drawbacks.
The following maybe reasons for joining a gym:
Motivation- Being around people who share the same aim can really motivate you to dig your heels in and get your workouts done well. If this helps you to exercise regularly, please go for it.
No Distractions- Aha! This is very true, I mean nobody is calling your name for one thing or the other to be done, no dishes to be washed, just you and your trainer.
Easy Access to Exercise Equipment and Fitness Classes- You don't need much exercise equipment to get a good workout, but doing the same old exercise videos can bore you to death. When you decide to workout in a gym, you've access to different equipment together with a variety of fitness classes, so boredom is out of the question.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages,
1. You may get stuck in an unfavourable contract: Many people register with a gym and use their memberships judistiously, others aren't consistent. If you belong to the latter group and you signed a contract for a period of a stated time, you'd be stuck paying for a long membership that you never use, thereby wasting money. I suggest that if this arrangement is not convenient for you, ask for a month to month membership instead. Most gyms don't advertise the month to month thing because it doesn't yield them profits; remember that they're into business too. But, with this type of membership you pay as you come, when you get tired of going, you can quit without paying additional fees.
2. Fees are continuous- Gym membership fees are generally collected via automatic bank drafts. But if you happen to experience any financial set back or lose your job, there's no way of stopping the gym from sucking money out of your account until your contract expires which would only cause more financial instability. A month to month membership, if granted curbs this though.
3. Risk of germ contact- It's no news that the exercise equipment could serve as breeding grounds for germs due to usage by numerous people leading to sweaty bodies. Any time you come into contact with germy equipment, you become vulnerable to infections. If you slack in hand washing or you're phobic to germs, you maybe better off exercising at home.
While it's not necessary to join a gym to lose weight, some people do well in this type of setting. If you're not sure whether the gym is the right choice, go to a nearby facility and request for a free trial membership, then draw your conclusions. I for one thrive in this type of setting, so how about you?
