Sticking With a Weight Loss Program

You've probably heard the sentiment many times that success takes hard work and dedication.
To be successful with anything in this world you have to have a certain stick-to-itiveness.
We all know that nothing good comes without a little hard work or a little pain, the trick is sticking with something long enough for it to pay off.
The same is absolutely true for weight loss.
If you can rise through the ranks at a job to become a manager, if you can start your own business and find some success, you can sure as hell lose the weight you want to lose.
So how does one go about sticking with a certain weight loss program?
The key is wanting change bad enough.
I've talked with my friends and family many times about their inability to stick with a diet and I've always said the same thing, if you want it bad enough you'll change, no matter what happens.
I don't quite know how to explain the process that went through my head when I decided it was time to get serious. As I've said before, I had just received news that blood sugar level was in pre-diabetic range, on top of that I was just completely fed up with my inability to fit in, my inability to find a girlfriend, and my inability to even walk up a set of stairs without getting winded.
Even, after all that, it took me being disgusted with myself over a double cheeseburger to get serious.
I guess it has to be the right time, with the right conditions, and the right feelings to get yourself to make a substantial change in your lifestyle, and that's the one thing I struggle with explaining to anyone who wants to lose weight.
You just have to need that change to actually make it.
Now that I've indulged my tangent I'll get back to the point of the article, how do you stick with it, after you've made the decision to change?
Well, if you've actually made a decision to change it shouldn't be so hard to stick with it but here are a few tricks I've learned.
Make it easy to change and get used to a new lifestyle before you get serious about it. Smartphone apps are awesome in this regard for recording your food and exercise. I've written about this extensively in my other articles and you should find some inspiration in those if you don't know how to do this.
Have healthy meals ready to go so you don't have to worry about making a big fuss in the kitchen if you want to eat well. A good way to do this is to just make a heaping portion of something good at the beginning of the week and have leftovers the rest of the week. Also there are myriad easy and nutritious frozen and microwave meals that require only a few minutes in the oven or the microwave and will have you good to go for a while.
You don't need snacks, unless you actually want to be accountable for recording two or three extra meals during the day that will take away from your enjoyment of the three main meals. This worked for me, it may not work for you. I find water and diet soda to be perfectly sufficient when I'm craving some sort of snack.
Get out for a little walk everyday, if you're an introvert like me a small walk to the coffee shop at six in the morning will be the highlight of, and set the tone for the rest of your day.
In the end, you have to do a great deal of experimentation and figure out just what exactly works for you in terms of losing weight. I'm sorry I can't offer some easy solution but as I said at the beginning of this article and I will say many more times, success takes hard work and dedication.
You have to want it bad enough to actually make the change and if you haven't gotten to that point there's nothing I can do to help you.
